Cam Lichfield was one of the first people to contact us at the onset of our fishing website and we sent him the monthly reports for quite a while until he finally had a chance to visit Puerto Vallarta on the 7th of February. Cameron and buddy Todd are Chiropractors from Seattle and both are avid fishermen who wanted a chance to try for something other than Salmon. Well, they touched all bases and tried 3 different boats and finally hit the Jackpot with the REEL OBSESSION. They did hook a Striped Marlin on the DIANA PESCADORA on the second day at El Banco but it was on light tackle while they were fishing for Tuna with a Diamond Jig and this fish took all of the line in a matter of seconds and was lost, did a few jumps and Cam swore that it was smiling as it disappeared. On the third day on the REEL OBSESSION Cam and Todd managed to bring in 6 big Dorado and a 60-pound Yellowfin Tuna at La Corbeteņia. In one day the blue water moved in from El Banco to Corbeteņia and the fishing conditions improved considerably. |

In one word, Sierra! In the beginning of February this was the fish to be caught and although no one has ever considered mounting one of these little beauties, they are certainly great to eat and make the very best Ceviche. The fighting chairs gathered dust and the early charters caught lots of small fish and had a great time Whale watching but nothing big was around for anyone. No one complained because the Humpbacks entertained our charters in the most amazing fashion and to view this spectacular show by these incredible creatures is worth much more than catching a Marlin and everyone considered himself fortunate to have visited Puerto Vallarta in February. |

Captain Miguel with the SOL had the first few charters in February. His boat is licensed for Whale Watching and he has had years of experience both fishing and watching the Humpbacks in a respectful manner. And it was Sierra, Sierra and Sierra and finally a Needlefish that was over 5 feet long. So, a 40-foot creature that weighs up to 50 tons took center stage and filled the gap that was left with the departure of the Blue and Black Marlin that were so abundant in the fall. But, who can compare 800 pounds with 100,000 pounds. No contest! And the Sierra are much better to eat anyhow. |
